The Dormis open their Nativity scene to concerted visits and the general public (18/12/2018)

The Monumental Bethlehem of The Dormis was inaugurated this Saturday in the chapel of the Mother School of the Divine Shepherd, in the Way of Madrid of Cieza, with the attendance of the president of the Brotherhood of the Prayer of the Orchard and the Holy Sepulcher, Antonio Gómez;

the councilor of Tourism, Antonio Moya, and the president of the Board of Pastoral Brotherhoods, Joaquín Gómez, among others.

Located for the third consecutive year in said temple, its assembly, in which more than 20 people have participated, has been directed one more year by the architect Abelardo Salmerón Pinar, with the contribution of figures and constructions by Juan Villalba and Bartolomé Herrera Valles , two brothers from Los Dormis and directors of two important nativity scenes that were part of the Cieza nativity scene for many years.

The mornings of the first week, until December 22, will be reserved for concerted visits of groups and schools.

Those interested should contact the organization by phone 616782340 or email

The schedule during Christmas, until January 6, 2019, will be from 11 to 13.30 and from 17 to 20.30.

This nativity scene was founded on Christmas 1993 at the initiative of the board of directors of the Brotherhood of Prayer of the Garden and the Holy Sepulcher, which sought, while promoting a new activity among its members, to rescue the tradition of Cieza from oblivion This initiative was joined by other associations, entities and individuals.

For its first installation, the well-known Murcian nativityist José Griñán was entrusted with the groups and main figures (around a hundred) of notable Hebrew style, which provided the nativity scene with its particular identity;

to these have been added later works of important nativity scenes such as José Alarcón, Miguel Amo, Widow of Galán, Manuel Nicolás Almansa, Ramírez and José Luis Mayo, in addition to others of Griñán himself, to collect the more than four hundred pieces that currently account;

and to which must be added in the last three years the 'Mysteries' made and ceded to this nativity scene by the famous local sculptor and image maker José Antonio Yuste Navarro, some original pieces in his bill and composition that increase, even more, the quality of this montage.

In its first two years of existence, the design and execution were the work of the ciezana sculptor Carmen Carrillo.

Three years later, the first buildings were built, the work of artisan Abaranero José Luis Molina;

since then, the assembly of the nativity scene has been continuously carried out by members of the association.

The steps taken with the Museum of the City of Madrid in 2009 concluded in a cooperation agreement between it and the Cultural Association 'The Dormis', under which, the assembly of the nativity scene took place in the museum during the following years (circumstance that can not be reissued this year because the museum closed its doors recently).

With this motive and together with a new economic investment, the dimensions of the nativity scene (currently around 90 m2) were extended and the decorative elements of the nativity scene were completely renovated, with new decorations and buildings being built, among which the recreation that each year was carried out buildings representative of the city of Madrid -the Puerta de Alcalá, the Sales, the Congress of Deputies, etc.- along with others in the Region of Murcia-last year specifically, the castle of Lorca , in a tribute to this city punished by the 2011 earthquakes.

The nativity scene of Los Dormis has been awarded three times by the Association of Belenistas de Murcia, which awarded it the first prize in 1997 and since its assembly began in the capital of Spain has been the second most visited in the city, being considered among the best of it.
