Podemos-Cieza: In this electoral campaign, in Cieza, it's time to talk about retirement pensions (02/04/2019)

The most recent reports from the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security place the Murcia region as the third autonomous region by the tail in terms of the average amount of retirement pensions and in terms of their number.

Only Extremadura and Galicia "surpass" us in this painful ranking and, for example, while a Basque pensioner receives more than 1300 euros a month on average, one Murcia has to settle for about 950. The main reason is to look for it in the low level of contributions accumulated by our workers;

partly because of unemployment, but, above all, because the underground economy extends like an endemic evil of our territory in times of crisis or bonanza.

We are not the only community where this happens, but we are one of those who suffer the problem in a more persistent way over time.

In Cieza, this situation of "average penury of retirees" is clear.

An economy based on agriculture and construction for decades and with widespread practices of underground economy has caused many of our current retirees and those who will be in the near future receive minimum or very low pensions.

Therefore, in the face of the immediate electoral events that are approaching, it is necessary to take the debate about the future of pensions to the streets and all public forums.

This is the unmistakable commitment of Podemos.

Just the opposite of what the usual parties tried, when they tried to force a renewed Toledo Pact with unacceptable conditions from the point of view of the defense of public pensions, because it aimed to reduce them towards the future and delay the retirement age .

From Podemos we have denounced that with the rush to close a Pact of Toledo at all costs it was wanted to avoid that a central issue for the life of millions of people entered strongly into the electoral debate, it was intended to muzzle the vindication of pensioners.

We reaffirm ourselves in it.

In recent weeks, we have seen again Spanish retirees take to the streets to shout loudly that "with pensions is not played."

We have seen them in Navarra and other places in the Spanish geography.

These pensioners, who defend their pensions, but also those of their children and grandchildren, are protected by the Constitution and not only by reason, since Article 50 of the Magna Carta states that "public powers will guarantee, through appropriate pensions and periodically updated, the economic sufficiency to the citizens during the third age ".

Those who question the public pension system and advocate its privatization question a Constitution in which they only see a weapon thrown against their political rivals, appropriating the political patrimony of all and ignoring that its content is not only the unity of Spain, but also a important level of social protection.

In short, from Podemos-Cieza we want to remind the people of Cieza that a society that does not spoil its elders is a society that forgets its roots, that becomes ungrateful and, in the same measure, unworthy;

The economic sufficiency of the elderly is a guarantee of their dignity, but also of the dignity of all.

Therefore, in the face of privatizations and cuts, more or less concealed, we defend among all the continuity of pensions, their revaluation with the CPI and the advancement, as far as possible, of the retirement age.

By constitutional imperative and dignity.

You vote, you decide.
