The City Council of Cieza, as signatory of the Covenant of Mayors is firmly involved in the reduction of emissions and compliance with international agreements signed by the European Union, having undertaken during the last year pioneering actions to improve energy efficiency in public buildings as part of the actions of its EDUSI strategy, financed by FEDER funds.

One of the areas with the greatest potential for energy savings and therefore for reducing the emission of greenhouse gas precursors is the public lighting sector.

Although through its own financing, the City of Cieza has been undertaking actions for the renovation and gradual improvement of street lighting, there is still a considerable possibility of improvement to walk towards a low carbon economy, so the team of The Government is already working on seeking external financing to facilitate the adoption of measures in this regard.

In the plenary session today, July 19, the agreement was approved for the application for assistance for the renovation of most of the lighting of the municipality.

The obtejo of the proposed measure, is based on the replacement of existing HID luminaires by LED technology luminaire, as well as in the renovation of lighting panels and installation of telemanagement systems thereof, which will mean a considerable improvement in the modernization of the municipal lighting and an advance in the emission reduction policies, besides supposing a considerable energy saving for the municipal coffers.

The approved measure will involve the request for assistance to IDAE for an amount of € 1,425,036.36, which would increase the overall EDUSI project budget co-financed by FEDER by more than 20%.

The councilor responsible for European projects, Mª Jesús López, affirmed at the end of the plenary session that the path initiated in the previous legislature continues, which has already led the Cieza City Council to the achievement of several European projects, including financing with FEDER funds of Edusi, worth 5 million Euros.
