Ecological associations criticize that the Cieza city council carries out work that erodes and degrades the soil (21/10/2019)

The environmental organizations RioRie and Ecologistas en Acción de Cieza criticize the work that the city council of Cieza is carrying out in areas such as the slope of the Hermitage, because they erode and seriously degrade the soils on which it is acting.

Ecologists, who lament that they have been asking the town hall to stop performing this type of action for years, explain that it is a mistake to “invest money and resources in starting with hoes the scarce vegetation that grows on land such as these slopes, and leaving bare soils and increasingly sterile â€

In these areas, they explain, “what must be done is the opposite.

That is, consolidate and revegete the slopes to stop their degradation. â€

However, what is achieved with this type of action, they add, “is to deepen its erosion by eliminating the scarce vegetation that could help retain its surface due to the action of erosive agents such as rain, among othersâ€

For environmentalists, these works have no justification, and point out that from the city council of Cieza “the municipal resources should be used to intervene with a little common sense, planting resistant and appropriate species for this type of soil, regenerating and improving the image from these areas, instead continue to erode them more and more. â€

Therefore, from both organizations the city council is requested to rectify and abandon this type of intervention.
