Ecologists in Action has warned, through a press release about the reappearance of air pollution caused by agricultural burning in Cieza and region, since October began, and has harmful effects on the affected population.

From the environmental organization they have also expressed concern about the lack of institutional control over these fires.

It is burning of stubble and pruning, a practice that ends up generating huge clouds of smoke enveloping, from early in the morning, the urban core, and held for hours.

From the environmental organization also called attention to the intensity of the smoke clouds of the past few days, and remember that smoke is a harmful pollutant health, as has already alerted the Directorate General of Public Health repeatedly in their reports.

The smoke is composed of gases (carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, etc.), soot and particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5 and PM1) that have negative effects on the respiratory system and the cardiovascular population exposed to this type of pollution.

The groups most affected are patients with previous respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, allergy sufferers, asthmatics, the elderly and children.

It also increases the health condition in healthy people performing intense physical activity outdoors, like athletes, construction workers, field, etc.

Ecologists in Action notes that this situation is not new.

And that during the months of October and November (2015), the mobile unit Network Monitoring Air Quality in the Autonomous Community recorded over 27 days, 20 in which important peak values were reached particulate contamination.

This means that during those two months, three of every four days, a significant deterioration of air quality in the region as a result of agricultural burning that took place was detected.

Therefore, from the environmental organization require greater management control over the management of waste on farms, both companies and individuals, and insist on the urgent need to promote the public administrations other management alternatives, such as crushed and composting.

Ecologists in Action calls on the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment to take seriously this problem and seek solutions, with the municipalities of Vega Alta, the agricultural sector of the region and social organizations, to permanently stop this condition to the health of the population.
