More than one thousand students participate in the Environmental Education Program organized by the Department of the Environment (06/06/2017)

'Connect people with nature'.

So clear is the motto that accompanies this June 5 World Environment Day.

To commemorate this date, the City Council of Cieza organized a program of educational and leisure activities focused on the smallest in order to educate them in the respect for the environment.

Fifteen educational centers and a total of 1,060 students have participated in the Environmental Education Program developed during the 2016/2017 academic year by the Department of Environment with the collaboration of the tutors of the different centers of Cieza.

These data have been known this Monday on the occasion of the World Environment Day, an event that has been developed in the Complejo Rural La Atalaya.

The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Moya, visited with municipal technicians the aforementioned municipal facilities, on Paseo Ribereño, where forty-eight children of early childhood education at the Colegio Gerónimo Belda have taken part in a series of playful and educational activities.

The event has also served to close the Environmental Education Program promoted by the City of Cieza.

Moya emphasized awareness raising by organizing activities that have received an important reception such as the 300 students who have visited the facilities of the municipal ecoparque, ten schools that have opted for school gardens and initiatives to promote the environmental values ​​of respect and Care of the environment.

In this sense, he put as an example the contest 'Recycling that is gerund' or the Day of the Tree.

As regards the design competition for a sign to mark school gardens, the prize has been awarded to Natalia Guardiola Villalba, 4th grade student of the Juan Ramón Jiménez School, endowed with 100 euros in school material.

It has been attended to give this award to the drawing that has best reflected the theme of the contest.

The winning design will be seen in school gardens set up in ten local schools.

On the other hand, the Association the Blue House has been awarded the first prize of the VI Creative Recycling Contest 'Recycling is gerund'.

The director of this entity, María José Guardiola, has been in charge of collecting an award with 500 euros.

It is a mobile water pump from a waste bike.

The device can carry the pump and, by means of its pedals, raise the water to the surface.

After the award ceremony, Gerónimo Belda's schoolchildren received the monitors' instructions first, using aromatic plants provided by the La Casa Azul Association, with which the children learned to transplant them in yogurt containers.

Later, these recycled containers were decorated with drawings.
