Assembly of the Platform "Segura Basin Fracking Free" in Cieza (25/06/2013)

The citizen movement that rejects the practice of fracking in the basin of the Segura met on Saturday 22 in Cieza.

Regional and central governments have granted several research permits affecting the provinces of Murcia and Albacete.

On Saturday there was a meeting of the newly created Citizen Platform "Segura Basin Fracking Free".

The meeting was at the IES Diego de Cieza Tortosa, with participants from various municipalities of the Segura basin, and Moratalla, Cehegin, Caravaca, Calasparra, Cieza, Murcia, Jumilla, Hellin and Elche de la Sierra, among others.

Alonso explains Torrente, spokesman for the platform, we worked primarily around organizational and coordination issues.

"A key aspect as it attempts to draw together a citizen's movement to a wide geographic area," he added.

Torrente explains that the holding of this meeting has led to progress in the consolidation of the fledgling movement that opposes hydraulic fracturing practices in our territory.

And for this, he explains, "is key to effectively articulate citizen platform response to decisions being taken now both the autonomous region, as the central government, without listening to the citizens, and without regard to the serious risks for the environment and economy of the area. "

In that sense Torrente remember that "regional and central authorities have recently issued two permits for research (Scorpio and Leo), allowing for the possibility of drilling from underground. And in addition to the previously approved Aries I and II".

Something is being done, he explains, "without informing the public of the serious risks of gas extraction through fracking technique, and obscurantism, as evidenced by the fact that at no time the word appears fracking (or fracture hydraulic) in the permissions granted ".

Among the conclusions of the meeting held in Cieza, Torrente stresses "the need to influence disclosure in all sectors of the population (social, political, economic) of the risks of fracking, and also to require government application the precautionary principle, which should translate into the cancellation and suspension of the authorizations granted.
