The Community manages an investment of 3.8 million euros from the Ministry for the environmental recovery of the river Segura as it passes through Cieza (12/08/2015)

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has approved the draft environmental recovery of the river Segura as it passes through Cieza, with an investment of 3.8 million euros, with the aim of restoring the ecological potential of the riverbank Safe in the nearest to the town of Cieza stretch, allowing enjoy the surroundings to the population.

The Minister of Agriculture, Water and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cache, said "we are in luck because it is a vindication of the ciezanos that soon will become reality."

The project includes the creation of wooden walkways, two observatories and viewpoints, parks and river beaches, as well as expanding the current Riverwalk.

Moreover, cleanup and recovery work spaces will be executed, while native species will be planted and will improve accessibility to the site.

It is also envisaged that different routes and footpaths enable hardened sand, to promote and publicize the population the set of elements of natural interest of this stretch of the River Segura.

As for the vegetation, groves and naturalized spaces will be created to promote the development of patches of native riparian vegetation, while invasive species are deleted reeds river and several natural beaches that existed before the invasion of the cane will be restored, with the aim of recovering the traditional enjoyment of water.

In addition to the environmental recovery of the area, works pursue the promotion of sustainable uses, whether recreational, such as walking, fishing or other sports, good teaching and environmental education, as the viewpoints of species and science.

The improvement will be extended by a ampliazona which is located upstream of the La Presa so called Argaz bridge, about 4.8 kilometers of river in the city nearest to Cieza.

The project will be executed by the state society Waters of the Mediterranean Basin (Acuamed), EU-funded and its implementation has been entrusted to the public company Tragsa.
