The senses of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, chaired today in Cieza, along with the family doctor and former chief of the regional government, Lorenzo Guirao, the discovery of the plaque that names the Hospital de la Vega Lorenzo Guirao.
Valcárcel highlighted the strong commitment of the doctor Guirao with public health, vocation focused on research, patient care and public service and human qualities that distinguished him.
Lorenzo Guirao, who died in August 2009 at the age of 52, he combined an outstanding career and research in the field of medicine and politics.
Among other public positions, he served as Minister of Health of the regional government, between 1991 and 1993, and the Minister of Health and Social Affairs between 1993 and 1995.
The President recalled that the doctor Valcárcel Guirao, despite being a point at the highest level researcher in the field of Andrology, chose to develop their scientific work in the Region of Murcia, to be able to offer a more close to their patients.
He also recalled the zeal with which Guirao Lorenzo contributed to the opening of the Hospital de Cieza, and said "no he would not have been possible."
The center, inaugurated by President Valcárcel, has 178 beds set up (106 of them in operation), 35 local consultation and 5 operating rooms.
