Pascual Lucas urges the Government of the Region of Murcia to stop contributing to the fracking that contaminates the groundwater of the region and harms the farmers (09/10/2018)

The socialist spokesman meets with the mayors of the North of the Region to let them know the Proposed Law that aims to rid the region of this aggressive practice.

The deputy secretary general of the PSRM and spokesman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group Joaquín López Pagán met in Calasparra, together with the deputy Jesús Navarro, with the mayor, José Vélez, and with the other mayors of the Northwest Region, among whom were the from Caravaca, José Moreno;

the one of Moratalla, Jesus Master;

the one from Cehegín, José Rafa Rocamora;

and that of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, to explain the details of the Proposition of Law on Fracking, which has been presented by the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly.

Joaquín López reproached that "while the regional government of López Miras neither governs nor is expected, unprotects the environment and only takes steps in the line of privatizing and amnesty to employers who do not respect it, the Socialist Party protects it from projects speculative and, what is more important, ensures the health of people and the environment. "

This initiative was born after gathering the concern that arises among the mayors and mayors of the affected municipalities and between citizen platforms the possibility of carrying out projects related to hydraulic fracturing (Fracking).

"The practice of this aggressive technique can have repercussions of environmental pollution in the aquifers of the area and has not been shown to be generating positive dynamics in obtaining energy," he explained.

The socialist leader said that it is a very simple law, but very useful.

It establishes additional measures for the protection of public health and the environment for the exploration, research or exploitation of hydrocarbons using the hydraulic fracturing technique, for which the Autonomous Community will have to develop a strategy that guarantees that, in case it is used in some space, it will be done with all the guarantees for the health of the citizens and for the environment.

On the other hand, added that "the regulation of this rule is endorsed by the Constitutional Court, because it is based on a similar law that is already in force in Castilla-León, with which we intend to give legal security and rid the Region of Murcia of fracking ".

The Socialist spokesman expressed his hope that it will go ahead before the end of the year and has the support of all the groups of the Chamber, "without partisan or irresponsible calculations by the PP and Citizens, we hope that the general interest prevails."

City Councils

For his part, the mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, said that "now with fracking we need the Popular Party to go to work, this invasive technique contaminates ground and surface water, so it harms the environment and agriculture."

The mayor stressed that the problems that the region has are solved with proposals such as those that we have been working in the municipalities and the Regional Assembly since 2015. Initiatives, such as book banks, which departed from the municipalities have been incorporated into the management autonomic

Fracking has to follow this path, we can not continue to build a Region that harms its main economic engine that is agriculture, its people or its natural heritage.

In addition, Pascual Lucas, thanked all the citizens of Cieza, especially environmental groups and farmers to support the initiatives that have been promoted by the PSOE in the Regional Assembly.
