IMIDA in precarious] | "Today at the inauguration of the SeCyt'19 we have concentrated again, with our black t-shirts, claiming that the agreement is fulfilled" |
Miguel Motas Guzmán, Counselor of Employment, Research and Universities has received us, to which we thank him for his attention and urge him to execute the mandate of the Regional Assembly of October 8, 2018 of which Citizens was to participate for approval.
The Murcian Institute for Agricultural and Food Research and Development (IMIDA) is the only agri-food research center in the Region of Murcia.
Despite its exclusive position, 65% of its staff depends on European aid with which to maintain their employment contracts and their research, to which they owe exclusivity.
All this in a context in which the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia has committed to lower the temporality below 8%.
On October 8, 2018, a motion was approved by the Regional Assembly in which the Regional Government was urged to create 48 structure positions for staff stabilization, the provision of a manager (vacancy over 2 years) and the increase in real investments in the institute.
However, it was not until May 21, 2019 that this motion materialized in a 3-year agreement to stabilize staff.
This agreement was signed between the unions and the representatives of the regional government.
With this signature our mobilizations ceased, but we had to resume them, since last October 28 we were informed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture that was not going to materialize.
That is why we are in the Week of Science and Technology to denounce the state of the scientific professions in this Region.
In SeCyt'19 it is intended to encourage scientific vocations, and we ask ourselves, Why?
For today the lack of commitment of our rulers to science only leads to the precarious employment of their workers.
