No one knows how many chewing gums are thrown into the street, the final trash bin for the most uncivil neighbors.
It is not a problem whose solution is unknown.
Citizens, regardless of their age, know how they can get rid of gum.
It has no science.
There are bins.
It is a matter of citizenship.
It is absurd to happily dispose of this waste and endorse its expensive cleaning to municipal services.
Can we continue chewing gum without getting dirty from black spots that both affect streets and squares?
Can we continue enjoying this treat without causing the discomfort it generates when stepped on?
Despite the accumulation of bad news that, in the key to lack of urbanity and civility, cloud the view and well-being of most of Cieza's neighbors, there are signs for trust, signs of a municipal initiative that could reverse the situation with the indispensable citizen collaboration: for the most frequented places in the city, points are already available to throw used gum and avoid dirtying the ground of streets and squares with black spots.
When the right way does not work out, there are many reasons that often lead municipalities to adopt imaginative solutions.
Like that of the Department of Circular Economy, which for a few days has invited residents to deposit used chewing gum in a specific container.
The City Council of Cieza has decided to take a serious blow on the table that serves to promote a change in the behavior of citizens and create awareness of the public space and the environment.
For this, the council has launched a campaign of cleaning and care of the environment that takes hand in hand the publication of a municipal side.
At the same time, it has extended the contract of Aguas de Cieza and Urban Environment services for the improvement of cleaning and waste collection and has created a specific Local Police brigade to enforce the regulations.
With that conviction they have also placed containers to throw the gum.
Originally and with the Flowering bow tie, they simulate red lips and do not go unnoticed in the urban landscape.
The containers for chewing gum have been placed in the places with more influx of children and young people such as the access ramp to the Municipal Library Salmerón, Plaza de España, park of the bullring, Paseo de Don Antonio Salas and park Poeta María Pilar López.
It is a matter of joining efforts to solve a problem that has a great disadvantage: citizens themselves.
Currently, the two main concerns of the neighbors are the cleaning and the collection of garbage, it is logical that the City Council dedicate its greatest effort to them.
The most hopeful in relation to this problem in the town is the explosion of interest that lately raises among the majority of the population, and even serious initiatives to solve it.
