The City Council of Cieza has been working throughout this year together with the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia to get the construction of the Chicharra greenway, which linked the municipalities of Cieza and Alcoy through Jumilla, Yecla or Villena, be a reality in the coming months.

The construction of the first section, which will start from the Los Prados estate and will reach the limit of the Jumilla term, will be the start of this project, which will be an important resource to reinforce the commitment to diversification and seasonality of the tourist offer of the city, also becoming the first step of a project of strategic interest at the regional level, whose purpose is the union of the municipality of Cieza with Jumilla and Yecla.

This first section will have a length of 13,750 km and a budget of 1.2 million euros, including as more important action the construction of a walkway over the existing stirrups in the Rambla del Judío and with a budget of material execution (PEM) of 108,784.65 euros. The contract notice for this project is already published on the ITREM website.

The greenways have special qualities, such as maximum accessibility, ease and security.

They are ideal places to promote sustainable mobility and the practice of the tour and the tourism cycle, especially attractive for people with reduced mobility (children, elderly and / or disabled).

For his part, the mayor of Cieza Pascual Lucas has commented that "these infrastructures have become spaces for the enjoyment and meeting of all citizens, where they can practice healthy habits that improve their well-being and increase their quality of life."

All this, while providing an additional benefit to the regions crossed, which promote territorial cohesion and socio-economic revitalization of the rural world.
