Since the cezanos were aware of what it meant to have in a part of their municipal term a unique and wild space such as the Almadenes Canyon, this has caused two reactions: the urgent need to protect it and the possibility of exploiting it in a responsible and tourist way. sustainable.
With walls of almost one hundred meters of verticality, the Segura River enters a narrow gorge of nine kilometers in length.
Pure nature, with no signs of life or human work around.
If the visit to the Cave of the Serreta makes the senses vibrate, contemplating the magnificence of this natural enclave from its interior reduces the spirit.
There are not enough adjectives that do justice at the moment of peering into the gorge.
The opening of the interpretation center will help to understand this prodigious place modeled by nature, water and time.
Satisfied
This is how the mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and the Councilor for Tourism, Antonio Moya, of the Interpretation Center of the Canyon of Almadenes came out Thursday after the visit they made with the manager of the company Mediampar SL, Antonio Casas, and members of the municipal corporation.
After several weeks of operation, this morning they learned firsthand what are the benefits and services of this equipment that aspires to become a key tool for promoting one of the most amazing natural enclaves in the Region of Murcia.
The councilor said that the interpretation center "is on the right track after overcoming a series of problems" and defined the building as "a great tool to disseminate the rich natural and cultural heritage that encloses this natural site", since they include coats and caves with cave paintings declared by Unesco World Heritage.
He also stressed the "very positive" consequences that will generate its openness for nature tourism.
"Shoulder to shoulder we should all contribute to promoting the canyon and take advantage of the opportunities we face today."
For the Councilor for Tourism these new facilities will be a key element for the conservation of space.
In fact, the Special Protection Plan already pointed to the existence of a growing, disorderly and spontaneous tourism that was already seen in the late 1990s as a potential threat to the conservation of the main values of space.
"It has been included, therefore, in the proposal of actions to be carried out for the conservation and socioeconomic use, the realization of a series of criteria aimed at ordering and regulating public use, among which was the creation of a center and visitor reception area ".
With its implementation, Moya adds, "the establishment of an educational program that informs the recipients of the natural, archaeological and cultural values of the protected space, instilling positive attitudes and behaviors through the development of educational experiences in situ becomes reality. , as well as activities of active tourism and of nature compatible with the conservation of the values of the space ".
Located on the right bank of the Segura River, downstream of the gorge, next to the hydroelectric power station, it occupies a privileged place due to the excellent views it offers.
The site has an open space for visitors and an interpretation area of the Almadenes Canyon and its environmental values.
It also has an auditorium, rooms for activities, for sports and nature equipment and cafeteria, as well as an administrative center and parking lots.
It is a pioneer equipment in the Region of Murcia in terms of environmental sustainability, since it is energy independent and is fully integrated into the environment, so that nature is part of the building.
