The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and the head of the social dining room Piedras Vivas, the priest Mariano Caballero, have signed a collaboration agreement, under which, the City Council, through the Department of Social Welfare, directed by Melba Miñano , this year will contribute 5,000 euros to contribute to the social work of the said group.
Piedras Vivas has distributed about 45,000 menus to the most disadvantaged people in the city during its three years of operation.
A work that now also adds the Consistorio ciezano.
The collective expanded its social action a few months ago with a larger store located on New Street, much larger than the one used since its inception in Mesones Street, with the aim of welcoming and training children and families in values ​​and habits most in need in order to clear the way for a decent future.
The place that Piedras Vivas has used since 2016 is located on Calle Mesones, an annex to the Franciscan monastery of the Immaculate Conception.
He was given altruistically, without consideration, by the Clarisas sisters of Cieza.
The figures are impressive.
In 2016, 8,298 menus, 14,578 in 2017 and almost 20,000 in 2018. Some 80 daily menus are served plus a special reinforcement on weekends for homeless people, immigrants or some with disabilities.
In addition to the social canteen, the association develops another project called 'Contigo', through which a family support and respite service is provided for patients admitted to the Lorenzo Guirao Regional Hospital, especially those who are in a situation of dependency.
Pascual Lucas has assured that the amount of 5,000 euros will be reviewed annually with the aim of increasing the endowment and collaborating more and more not only in the task of food distribution but in the objective of the association to protect the integration of children in risk of exclusion
