The Department of Environment has begun this week the work of reforestation and hydrological correction in the Mount of the Watchtower, included in the catalog of mountains of public utility.
Through the process of participatory budgets of the year 2018 carried out by the City Council of Cieza, a citizen proposal was approved to perform restoration actions on the vegetation cover and fight against erosion.
The works, which were awarded in 2019 for an amount of 29,878 euros, had to undergo a major revision after the serious damage caused by DANA last September, and that was primed precisely on the north face of the Watchtower due to its high slope and characteristics of the land, so that a large part of the projected works will be destined to recover the serious problems of erosion, runoff and impact on roads and paths, essential for the maintenance and conservation of the mountain and enjoyment of users.
The works will include repopulation with native species, drainage improvement actions and stabilization with gabions, as well as removal of land, stones and woodland from the path and roads of the north face.
It is also intended to improve the existing infrastructures currently available for irrigation, which guarantee the maintenance of current restocking works, as well as those carried out by associations of the municipality and included in the Environmental Volunteering Program.
