Since 2017, the 'March 8' Awards have supported women and groups who, with passion, vision and commitment, try to make Cieza a better place through their contribution to gender equality.

With the seven new 2020 awards, the Women's Municipal Council continues to support extraordinary women who can be an example to follow, inspiring society to move towards gender equality.

Dr. Amparo Cano García, the student Ángela Erquicia Rodríguez, the artist María Joaquina Sánchez Dato and the user of Afemce Purificación Falcón García received this Thursday at the Capitol Theater the March 8 Awards granted annually by the City of Cieza to women who have stood out in different fields of social, academic and work life.

On the other hand, the associations Grupo Scout San Jorge de Cieza and Ajuntaera Feminista Akelinza.

Similarly, the Cieza Voleadores Club was recognized for its projection in women's sports.

The fourth edition of this act was chaired by the mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, who read the institutional manifesto for International Women's Day.

In his speech the councilor appealed directly to the ability of women to transform the world and society.

"This March 8 is also a day to reflect on the progress made, demand changes and celebrate the acts of courage of ordinary women who have exerted an extraordinary role in history, claiming basic rights such as access to education, culture, work or politics, "he said.

'Esemeble Ama', a musical group formed by students of the Conservatory of Music Maestro Gómez Villa, brilliantly performed a repertoire care under the direction of Jorge Medina, who is an accordion teacher and president of the Association of Murciana Accordionists.

And nowadays the accordion specialty is only part of the curriculum of the conservatories of Murcia and Cieza.

The musical brooch left in the air the message that the family, society in general, but especially the school - as a transmitter not only of knowledge, but of universal values - is the most effective environment to educate in equality.
