In an unpublished announcement from the town hall ciezano, the suspension of the Fair and Festivities in honor of San Bartolomé is made public.
The City Council of Cieza and the Brotherhood of San Bartolomé, represented, respectively, by Mayor Pascual Lucas and President Gema Sánchez reported at a press conference on the suspension. In a decision unprecedented in the recent history of Cieza, Mayor Pascual Lucas made public on Thursday the suspension of the Fair and Fiestas in honor of San Bartolomé due to the pandemic.
The decision was an open secret in social areas since the entry into force of the so-called 'new normality' revealed the impossibility of holding events and activities that bring together thousands of people.
In his words, "it has not been an easy decision because the economic and social sectors of Cieza need this week of patron saint festivities, but we must be realistic and responsible with the situation, and our main objective is to guarantee the health of the neighbors, for therefore, we cannot organize massive events that can cause contagion.
" The announcement made by the mayor to suspend the patron saint festivities has deserved the sympathetic support of the Brotherhood of San Bartolomé for what he considers a "very brave decision" because "the health of the citizens prevails".
Thus, at least, it follows from the statements made at a press conference by its president, Gema Sánchez, in supporting and respecting the decision of the Cieza City Council.
"We support and respect the municipal decision, although we report that they are studying to carry out only the activities organized by the brotherhood in which security measures can be met to celebrate the day of Saint Bartholomew, and that we will announce when they see the approval from the authorities.
"Thus, Lucas gave bad news and good news.
Now is the good one ahead, the one that justified the appearance before the media in the Siyasa Museum and which was also attended by the councilors for Culture, Celebrations, Education, Youth and Museums, Melba Miñano, María Jesús López, María Ramos, Marta Sánchez and Conchi Villa, respectively, as well as representatives of the social and cultural fabric of the town: the 'Vera-Neo' programming was presented, which will run from July 16 to September 22.
The mayor enthusiastically pondered the programming prepared jointly by different municipal areas which, in his opinion, "will fill the gap left by the fair a little, since we are aware of the great importance for all the residents."All in all, Cieza wants to join the first row of the main municipalities of the Region giving the alternative to a series of shows that starts from a premise of the most hopeful: explore a program whose purpose goes beyond mere entertainment, becoming a important work tool in reviving the economic fabric of the city.
The events scheduled in different stages will start on July 23 with the performance of El Kanka, Martita de Graná (July 31), Revolver (August 8), Yllana Teatro (August 20 and 21), El Brujo (August 22) ), Ara Malikian (August 25), Comandante Lara & Cia (August 26), Áureo (August 28), Ketama (August 29) and Murcianos 2 (September 18).
