The Minister of Science and Innovation, Pedro Duque, and the Minister of Universities, Manuel Castells, have met to address the reforms of the research career and the Statute of Teaching and Research Personnel (PDI), in which their departments are working, and they have guaranteed that these reforms, which share objectives, will be developed in coordination. The Ministry of Universities is working on a draft law for the future Statute of the PDI, which aims to provide stability to the figure of research teaching staff.
For its part, the Ministry of Science and Innovation is designing new formulas to ensure a stable and predictable professional career in the field of research, both in the field of Public Research Bodies and scientific centers, as well as in universities and hospitals. In the Shock Plan for Science and Innovation presented last July by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, a reform of the Science Law was announced to create a stable figure for the entry and consolidation of research staff in the Spanish public science system.
It is what is known in Anglo-Saxon countries as a 'tenure track', a stable contract subject to a positive evaluation condition, an ideal figure to establish the development of the research career on it.In addition to the ministers, the meeting was attended by the Secretary General for Research, Rafael Rodrigo, and the Secretary General for Universities, José Manuel Pingarrón.
