The Cieza City Council, as a signatory of the Covenant of Mayors and through its Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy, set itself the objectives of moving towards a city model with the most efficient energy consumption possible, which will in turn mean less carbon dioxide emissions and lower costs.
In short, moving towards a more sustainable city model that is more committed to future generations. For this, the City Council is implementing different measures through projects co-financed by the European Commission.
On the one hand, through the DUSI Cieza 2025 Integrating City Strategy, 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), an energy rehabilitation plan for municipally owned buildings is being carried out with an investment of 1,000.
000 euros.
The operation includes the energy rehabilitation of 3 municipal buildings: Town Hall, the Old Courts building and the Cultural Center, with the aim of favoring the transition to a low-carbon economy, achieving more efficient buildings through the rehabilitation of the envelope, replacement of lighting, ventilation and air conditioning.Currently, the works on the buildings of the Town Hall and the Old Courts have been completed, and a significant improvement in the energy performance of the two buildings has already been achieved, reaching at least one letter improvement in their energy rating.
The third building, the Géneros de Punto Cultural Center, has just been awarded and works are expected to begin in the next few days.In addition, the City Council is part of the COMPETE4SECAP project, co-financed by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Program, in which 32 European cities participate to implement an energy management system certified by the ISO 50001 standard, which was awarded to the City Council of Cieza on September 24 by the Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification (AENOR), being one of the few municipalities in Spain that has this demanding certification in both lighting and public buildings. In this last project, 4 municipal buildings have been included (Town Hall, Library Parents Salmerón, Police Station and Social Services Building) on ??which different measures have been implemented to reduce energy consumption.
In addition, the municipality of Cieza has been the winner in the energy saving competition due to the results obtained in the Padre Salmerón Library building.
