The Councilor for Consumption of the City Council of Cieza reports that, in addition, the VAT of this staple product will drop from the general rate of 21% to the super-reduced rate of 4%.This Monday, November 16, the BOE has published, in accordance with the provisions of article 94.3 of the revised text of the Law of guarantees and rational use of medicines and health products, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 1/2015, of 24 July, review the maximum amount of sale to the public of disposable surgical masks, which is set at 0.72 euros / unit.
A measure that has come into force this Tuesday. In a press release, the Councilor for Consumption of the City Council of Cieza, Francisco Saorín, has declared that the drop in the price of surgical masks represents a cut of fourteen cents compared to the previous price on which 21% of general VAT still weighs applicable to masks. On the other hand, the mayor has announced that this week's decrease will not stop there, since it is expected that the sale price to the public will decrease more over the next few days, since those 0.72 euros have applied a VAT of 21%, which will be reduced to 4%, as the Government announced last week.
In other words, these masks would cost around sixty euro cents.
In addition, this VAT reduction will affect all disposable masks, in addition to surgical masks, hygienic and high protection ones (FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3) would also be included, but not fabric ones.Saorín recalls that the Ministry of Health had already approved on April 22 a maximum amount of 0.96 euros for the sale of surgical masks to the public.
The new amount of 0.72 euros is subject to a new review taking into account the evolution of market prices, according to the BOE.
This new maximum marketing price is set both in large stores, as well as in pharmacy and online sales offices in order to guarantee free competition below the maximum price set and to ensure that access to them is made under non-abusive economic conditions. The mayor has admitted that the maximum price of 0.96 euros that was set at the time for masks is "excessive" for many vulnerable families and "cause for concern", so the drop to 0 is good news , 72 euros, since the masks have become "a basic good".The reduction in VAT is important, according to the Councilor for Consumption of the City Council of Cieza, Francisco Saorín, who has shown his hope that this reduction in VAT may serve to lower the price of this product, although that will depend on the companies, who produces and markets it.Finally, the mayor recalled that "the PSOE-UP coalition government has encouraged the national production of the manufacture of masks, since Spain was not prepared for it because it even lacked machinery, and that left the country at the mercy of international suppliers, some of which took the opportunity to set excessive prices.
Now there are thirty companies in Spain that produce masks, "he concluded.
