On February 5, 2019, the Municipal Plenary of Cieza approved the advance of the specific modification No.
11 of the PGMO of Cieza, which was intended to regulate "livestock use".
Since then, the file, which was sent to the CARM, has already collected all the contributions and recommendations of the different departments of the regional Administration, so the text will be debated in an extraordinary plenary session this Thursday, November 26.The Councilor for Urban Planning, Antonio Martínez-Real, and Francisco Saorín, Councilor for Works have appeared this Wednesday at a press conference underlining that, in their opinion, it is "an important procedure that will allow Cieza to protect its heritage, its values ??and its economy (especially agriculture and flowering tourism, as well as the industrial development of the municipality) ".In the modification to be carried out, the conditions for the installation of intensive farms are hardened, being more benevolent with the farms of minimum density; in the same way, radii of distances are established with areas of interest that are to be protected, "which eliminates the possibility of installing macro-farms in areas that are considered strategic for the development of our city, either because of their agricultural importance, because they are tourist transit areas or because they are close to places of high heritage or landscape interest ".At the moment, there are three license requests for large pig farms that, with the next plenary agreement, would be suspended. Finally, the councilors have also commented that they are closely following the events in neighboring municipalities "to work along the same lines protecting our territory, all our neighbors and the economy of Cieza".
