And the balance is positive: it is close to reaching 90% of HIV diagnosis among infected people; 97% of the people diagnosed were treated with antiretroviral drugs and 90% of the people on antiretroviral treatment have a suppressed viral load.Protection against COVID-19On the other hand, Saorín has referred to, that this year, marked by the response to COVID-19, the Secretariat of the National Plan on AIDS has worked with the autonomous communities, NGOs, health professionals and scientific societies in care for people with HIV infection and those in situations of greater vulnerability.Different recommendation documents have been prepared for the prevention of COVID-19 and information has been compiled regarding the continuity of care for people with HIV infection, the monitoring of PrEP and the provision of antiretroviral treatment in order to assess needs for improvement.Likewise, a clinical trial on the prevention of coronavirus infection in health care has been launched, EPICOS, in which 74 hospitals from 15 autonomous communities and 5 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela) are participating.
.Finally, Saorín has emphasized that, despite the serious pandemic we are experiencing, we cannot lower our guard and we must maintain measures to prevent HIV infection and care for those affected.
Thus, he stressed that "the promotion of safer sexual relations by promoting combined preventive strategies: the use of condoms, the HIV test, and post and pre-exposure prophylaxis, are the priority objectives for the National Plan on AIDS".
