The Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Moya, and the director of ANSE, Pedro García, have signed an agreement to include this municipality in the "Network of Municipalities for the adaptation of pollinators to climate change" promoted by the aforementioned environmental NGO .
This agreement aims to encourage the municipalities of the Iberian southeast (Almería, Murcia and Alicante, mainly) to implement the measures of the National Strategy for the Conservation of Pollinators, recently approved by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECORD) . This agreement aims to establish a framework for collaboration between both entities that allows the adoption of measures for the conservation of pollinating insects in the green areas managed by the City Council. Municipal sources influence that it should be remembered that municipal entities can make important contributions to the conservation of pollinators, since various scientific studies point to the importance of urban areas for the conservation of these insects.
"In many cases, urban areas act as reserves for pollinators, presenting a greater diversity than agricultural areas and nearby natural reserves.
In this sense, green areas due to their wide diversity of species and their long flowering periods seem to play a key role.
In this sense, the decalogue included in the document 'Measures for the conservation of the biodiversity of wild pollinators in the Iberian Peninsula' proposes increasing the availability of flowers in the wild, agricultural areas and cities ".
The aforementioned sources add that," precisely, the execution of gardens for pollinators ('garden pollinator') is a trend in the Anglo-Saxon world, thus in the US there is a campaign to reach one million gardens destined for the conservation of these species of insects ". The initiative is part of the project 'Agricultural corridors for the adaptation to climate change of pollinator populations' with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, as well as the companies Naturgreen and Ecomil.
The project has the scientific supervision of the Murcian Institute for Agrifood Research and Development (IMIDA).
