The Director General of Industry, Energy and Mines, José Francisco Puche, the Mayor of Cieza, Antonio Tamayo, and the manager of the Regional Agency for Energy Management (Argema), Teodoro Garcia, today inaugurated the bicycle hire service for this county.
This is a free system, called 'Embiciate', with 100 bikes in six bases scattered throughout the town.
This service is automatic and can benefit from, any person over 13 years.
To use one of the bikes, ciezanos and visitors to the site are to register as users in the Department of Environment or the Office of Tourism and a deposit of 20 euros.
Following this procedure, they must send an SMS through their mobile phone number 600 124 125 and the bike will disengage from the base.
To return the bike just have to hook up again in any of the six bases.
The director general said that "the system in place is very accessible and easy, so we hope will be widely used, contributing to the improvement of the environment and quality of life of citizens by reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and the noise generated by vehicles. "
The sites selected to lay the foundation of the bikes are the most popular of the municipality, as the indoor swimming pool, sports center, bus station and the Plaza Mayor, where the headquarters of the City Council and Park and Medina Siyasa the corner of Convent.
System time is from 07:00 to 22:30 every day except 1 January and 25 December.
Cieza is the eighth municipality with bicycle loan system after Ceutí, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcazares, Alhama de Murcia, San Javier, Totana, Mula.
University of Murcia has a similar system and Murcia, Puerto Lumbreras, San Javier (La Manga) and White are about to operate them.
This initiative is part of saving policies and energy efficiency developed by the Ministry of Universities, Business and Research through Argema, in collaboration with municipalities and the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDEA), an agency under the Ministry of Industry, under the Strategy for Energy Saving and Efficiency in Spain (E4).
Energy savings and health benefits
In general, the estimated savings is equivalent to 46.4 tonnes of oil per year per 100 bicycles if each is used to travel 30 miles.
This amount of oil is 60,320 liters of gasoline, equivalent to 72,400 euros, or 54,288 liters of diesel (59,700 euros).
Puche said at the inauguration of the service that "if a ciezano who uses his car every day to travel 30 miles on the bike passed, would generate nearly half ton of carbon dioxide a year. Not only contributes to the improvement of the environment, but to its domestic economy and your health. "
The benefits of cycling as a means of transport is non-polluting gas emissions and noise, consume small amounts of soil and contributes to the decline in traffic.
