The Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment has completed the actions of environmental recovery of the path Zig Zag in the Cerro de La Atalaya in Cieza.
The project had a budget of 25,743 euros, co-financed with European ERDF funds (80 percent) and the Ministry (20 percent).
Restoration work and environmental soundness covering aspects such as improving the firm principal, the restoration of degraded areas and removing shortcuts, alternate routes and other areas of misuse.
It has also installed information signs and regulations regarding the correct use of the trail and its main features.
The path of Zigzag is busy due to its proximity to the town of Cieza.
Numerous shortcuts and alternative routes have been created by users without knowledge, in most cases, the serious environmental problems that this practice entails, such as acceleration of erosion, leading to the loss and degradation of soils.
The restoration of natural paths intended to encourage the use of them for all those who want to enjoy nature in an orderly manner, directed and without causing impacts on the environment.
Thus, it is intended to value the natural environment and raise public awareness on the proper use of these infrastructures, recovering landscape and ecological values ​​in the path environment and promote the conservation of such an important space for ciezanos as is Cerro de La Atalaya.
