The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, on behalf of the entire municipal corporation and as a first ciezano, has issued an official statement which regrets the tragic toll of hundreds dead and thousands injured that caused the quake registered 7.8 degrees in the coastal area of ​​Ecuador last Saturday night and solidarity with the Ecuadorian people and over 700 citizens of that country who form the Ecuadorian community of Cieza.

Ecuador earthquake took place on Saturday, at 18:58 ECT, with its epicenter in the canton Muisne Esmeraldas province, with a magnitude of 7.8.
It is the strongest earthquake felt in the country since the earthquake in Colombia in 1979, and the deadliest since the earthquakes in Ecuador in 1987. The seismic waves reached the southwest of Colombia, felt in cities of that country as Cali, Pasto, Popayan and Neiva, and Peru's border with Ecuador in cities like Tumbes, Piura and Jaén.
From the city of Rome, where he was at the time of the event, President Rafael Correa declared a state of emergency at the national level and state of emergency in six coastal provinces.
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than one million people were affected by the earthquake.
