The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Water delivered today 175 liters of oil obtained from the harvest of the experimental farm La Maestra, located in the municipality of Jumilla, the Association 'Piedras Vivas' de Cieza.
The act of delivery was attended by the Director General of Agro-Food Innovation, Juana Mulero.
This association, dedicated to charitable and social action through the promotion of the general interest, develops in Cieza, among others, a social dining project for people in situations of emergency, risk or exclusion.
The dining room offers a support service to this group, in order to respond immediately to serious states of need, serving an average of between 55 to 65 people each day.
This is the second oil donation made by the Ministry in this campaign.
At Christmas, 150 liters were donated to Abandoned Jesus.
The olive from which the oil comes is obtained from different varieties of olive cultivated in the estate of Maestra, which are part of a transfer project in which their ability to produce oil and their organoleptic characteristics are evaluated.
In this way the results obtained can serve to the farmers of the zone to decide which varieties of olive to cultivate and the ideal conditions of culture to optimize the yield.
The project is co-financed by Measure 1 Actions of transfer of knowledge and information of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia 2014-2020, through the EAFRD, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment and Autonomous Community.
The olive cultivation is present in both eminently agricultural areas, because of its good soil and climate conditions, and in areas of lower agronomic quality, given the great rusticity of the species, which adapts to numerous habitats, being frequent to find plantations of olive trees In areas close to mountains, protected areas and even forming embedded within these, being a very naturalized crop and in certain wild areas.
The maintenance of this crop in a profitable way in rural areas is a very important agricultural activity from the social point of view and in agroforestry areas a clear benefit to the environment.
