The actions carried out by the Department of Works and Services have consisted in the replacement of all the pavement, made up of cloths of mud slabs, as a preventive measure to avoid the falls of the pedestrians.
The Councilor for Works and Services of the City of Cieza, Francisco Saorin, explained that "this is possible thanks to the good economic management of the Consistory, which has allowed the recent hiring of eight workers to increase the reduced workforce of the aforementioned municipal area" .
"This first phase, carried out by the newly incorporated municipal workers, has consisted in the replacement of all slabs of mud, respecting the original paintings of the artist Pepe Lucas," says Saorín.
With a cost of just over 30,000 euros in materials and optimizing resources, "we have given a new air to this central area, we have drastically reduced the risk of falls and we have laid the groundwork for future actions in this area, Beginning with the substitution of the slate slabs of the Corner of the Convent at the moment in which the procedures of contracting of the works are concluded ".
In this sense, he announced that "with municipal contributions and EDUSI funds, we will soon proceed to other more ambitious phases, which will include a definitive solution to the deterioration suffered by the paintings, the replacement of flower beds, planters and trees by less invasive ones And more suitable for the area, and we are even studying the possibility of pedestrianization, "an aspect that will be submitted to consultation of neighbors through the Regulation and the Department of Citizen Participation.
Saorin has been pleased to have achieved the goal of having this "emblematic place" arranged before the festivities.
"We did not choose these actions because it is a central area, but because its state was endangering the physical integrity of the pedestrians in this busy area. We will reach many more places, no matter if it is the center or the suburbs," he concluded.
