The Ministry of Health, through the Murcian Health Service (SMS), has signed a collaboration agreement with the voluntary society 'Piedras Vivas' Cieza, to volunteer activities in the hospital of the Vega' Lorenzo Guirao de Cieza ', reference center for the municipalities of Cieza, Abarán and Blanca.
Thus, 'Piedras Vivas' will develop the project 'Contigo' in the hospital center to accompany hospitalized patients, especially patients who are in a situation of dependency, in order to facilitate family members or caregivers rest and personal development.
In particular, volunteers will provide emotional support and support to the sick, animation and reading and rest to relatives.
For its part, the SMS supports the project for its utility and benefit for patients and caregivers.
Particular attention will be given to the homeless, elderly, immigrants and drug addicts who can not have company during their stay.
In addition, they will take care of people derived from the Foundation of Guardianship and Judicial Defense of Adults of the Region of Murcia, as well as to elderly, disabled or children who do not have family support and women victims of gender violence.
The staff who will carry out these tasks will be properly trained and selected by the volunteer coordinator of the association Piedras Vivas, who will work closely with the volunteer responsible for Health IX.
The agreement is valid for four years, with the possibility of renewal.
22,000 stays per year
The Cieza hospital registers about 3,500 admissions per year and more than 22,000 rooms, in addition to some 36,800 emergency rooms and has 589 employees, of which 121 provide Primary Care services in the health centers that depend on this hospital.
