The Department of Environment has contributed this Wednesday to the celebration of the Day of the Tree promoting a series of activities of awareness on the importance of the forests destined to schools, among which are didactic games, workshops or the plantation of trees in the school gardens of San Bartolomé and San José Obrero schools.
These activities promoted by the City of Cieza have been grouped around the date proclaimed by the Assembly of the United Nations as World Forest Day as recalled by the Councilor for the Environment, Antonio Moya.
The morning began at the San Bartolomé-La Era School where we wanted to take advantage of the existing school garden in the children's playground to plant trees and vegetables with the help of the center's students.
Here a series of didactic games has been carried out by monitors from the Sociocultural Association La Casa Azul, in which around thirty students from the first and second grade of Primary have participated.
The Councilor for the Environment, who has been accompanied by the center director Manuel Salmerón, explained that his municipal area "has planted more than 400 trees with the help of local associations and groups to recover the riverbank forest."
Meanwhile, at the San José Obrero School and with the involvement of the Environment, similar activities have been carried out through which the value of trees and forests has been highlighted, as well as the responsibility for their care and conservation.
Through this year's motto, 'Forests and sustainable cities: live in greener, healthier and happier cities', we aim to highlight the importance of trees and forests from different points of view, whether as carbon stores or they help mitigate the effects of climate change, as sources of food and medicines or as sources of energy and wealth.
In the same way, the importance of forests as elements that promote active and healthy lifestyles, improve mental health, prevent diseases and provide a place for people to socialize, as well as being reducing noise pollution is valued. , since they protect the houses from the roads and industrial areas nearby.
It also highlights its work as air filters that contribute to citizens can enjoy a cleaner air in cities, without forgetting the point of view as protectors of watersheds or as habitat and protection for many animals and plants.
