That the Padre Salmerón de Cieza Municipal Library is one of the most surprising cultural facilities that any reader can find is known.
Because of its location, its architecture, its services, its cultural program and, of course, its documentary collections.
The Regional Book Fair for Children and Youth knows this and uses the place with intelligence.
For the third consecutive year, Cieza becomes the capital of children's and youth books.
The diverse scenarios offered by the central Padre Salmerón Municipal Library and its surroundings, have been gaining an audience that appreciates this combination to enjoy a wide and varied programming focused on the promotion of reading.
On this occasion the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and the Regional Library of Murcia have joined the organization of the same with the Department of Culture and the Municipal Library Padre Salmerón.
With the inauguration of an exhibition of comics and comics, the III Regional Book Fair for Children and Youth will begin on April 16, an appointment that, by its own right, is already essential in the calendar of events linked to the Book Day.
But, above all, an appointment with its own personality, which has been able to relax its pretext with activities aimed at an adult audience.
Despite having a short history, in a few years have experienced an amazing consolidation in every way, proof of this is the incorporation of the Autonomous Community to the organization.
The fair, which will take place from April 16 to 25, would not be what it is without the presence of writers.
And this year, as in the last two editions, the invitations have been addressed to regional and national authors: Lorenzo Silva, Care Santos, Clara García Sáenz de Tejada, Eliacer Cansino, Elisa M. Matallín, Federico Martín Nebras, Juan Pedro Romera, Juan Soto Ivars, Lluisot, Luigi Ludus, Manuel Moyano, Mariola Sanz, Pep Bruno, Raquel Lopez, Inmaculada Pelegrin, Paco López Mengual, Carmen María Martínez Salazar and the ciezanos Antonio Balsalobre, Shirin Klaus and Jesús Manuel Ruiz.
Then there are the activities for all ages and literary tastes, those that give an image of an event of taste of the people who live these days in a very special way.
Thus, 'Strolling through books, stories and legends' will propose on April 19, 21 and 24 a guided tour of the city to discover its literary corners by the hand of Antonio Balsalobre and Fernando Fernández.
The ciezano poet Pepe Belló will lead, on April 17, 'Poesía en vaso' at the Arte-Sano café while, on the same day, the book march featuring local schoolchildren will take place between the Paseo Don Antonio Salas and the Esquina del Convent.
The III Regional Book Fair for Children and Youth will include this year an activity aimed at educational centers of Ojós, Ricote and Villanueva del Segura: 'The magic of reading' by Luigi Ludus.
It will be on April 17, at 12.00, at the Municipal Auditorium of Ricote.
Two hours before, but at the Victoria Theater, the students of Blanca will also enjoy this magician.
The next day, there will be a book signing starring authors ciezanos, between 19.00 and 20.00 hours, in the casetas of books installed in the Corner of the Convent.
And on Saturday, April 21, a day of animation and promotion of reading will be held, directed to professors, librarians and other professionals, by Federico Martín Nebras, Clara García, Eliacer Cansino, Mariola Sanz and Pep Bruno.
It will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the Aurelio Guirao Auditorium.
That same day at 9.30 pm, and under the title 'The night of the books', the cloister of the municipal library will host a dinner with monologues, theater, music and poetry.
The presenter will be the journalist and writer Jesús Manuel Ruiz.
For the enjoyment of the reader there will also be book presentations, meetings with writers, poetry recitals, workshops, storytelling, theater, bartering books, collective readings, puppets, monologues, book exchange, children's and youth theater shows, reading contest, bibliobuses and awards, among others.
And the wide range of proposals will be closed with the casetas of books installed in the Esquina del Convento by local bookstores and the publishers Alfaqueque Ediciones and Raspabook.
The mayor of Cieza, Pascual Lucas, and the general director of Cultural Assets, Juan Antonio Lorca, together with the Minister of Culture, María Ramos, made reference during the presentation of the program to this short, but in crescendo, way of an event cultural that was conceived with the intention of becoming a reference of children's literature and youth in the Region of Murcia.
In the words of the alderman, "has been growing despite its short life, consolidating with the purpose of offering literature lovers an alternative to enjoy reading and leisure, with literature as the guiding thread".
Thousands of citizens and visitors will fill the scheduled activities with which the City of Cieza, according to the mayor, "expects to exceed approximately 10,000 visitors who came last year." For this has been important developments among which include the march of books , with musical animation, in which more than a thousand students of different academic levels will participate or the staging of the children's play 'Alegría' which has been awarded the Max Award for the best children's show. For the general director of Cultural Assets "this important cultural event is celebrated with the aim of attracting the youngest to the world of culture and instilling in them the reading habit, a habit that, if they really know and enjoy, they will not abandon his life".
The initiative is part of the broad Plan for the Promotion of Reading prepared by the regional government which, in his words, "is allowing, for example, expand the funds of the libraries of the Region, as well as modernize and update these centers and make them more accessible, turning them into spaces of cultural agitation ".
Lorca alluded to the objective of the Plan of Promotion of the Reading of converting the libraries in alive spaces, attractive and open to all the citizens, for it "we are carrying out the cession of small exhibitions that, around different topics related to literature , produces the Regional Library and then becomes itinerant, reaching those municipalities that request them. "
Next to the Cieza comics show, he recalled that the exhibition 'This is not a comic book', which covers some of the events that have led to the birth and rise of the graphic novel, has just been inaugurated in the Municipal Library of Fortuna.
