The government delegate in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, visited this morning the advanced stage of the works of the Interpretation Centre Almadenes Canyon, a pioneering building in the region of Murcia about environmental sustainability, as it is energy-independent and fully integrated into the environment so that nature is part of the building.
The construction of this center is part of the Tourism Promotion Plan Almadenes Gorge, with a total investment of over 4 million euros, which aims to give value to this unique natural setting, providing municipalities with a Cieza and Calasparra significant boost tourism.
González Tovar reported that "this center will become the core of management actions carried out in this protected area, both sightseeing and other environmental and educational activities."
Among the latter are planned itineraries as the Via Ferrata and others to be developed in different seasons of the year and climbing.
Another role is the coordination with other complementary tourism resources, cultural and sports, to be held in the towns of Calasparra Cieza and also as part of the Tourism Promotion Plan.
In the construction of the building is investing 1.2 million euros (1,192,897 euros), contributed equally by the Government of Spain, the consortium formed by the towns of Calasparra and Cieza and the autonomous government.
The investment includes 589,641 euros for the building and equipment and 315,000 euros to 288,256 euros and interpretive material for the preparation of outdoor activities.
Tovar González noted that "this center will be key to promoting the environmental values of our region, and give the area a significant tourist impulse."
"Also - added the delegate of the Government - This investment also allows us to offer healthy recreational alternatives to citizens and visitors."
Also, the building will host an open space for visitors, and an area of interpretation Almadenes Canyon and its environmental values.
We also have meeting facilities, activity rooms for sports and nature material and cafeteria and an administrative area of the center and parking.
Tourism Promotion Plan "Almadenes Gorge"
The Tourism Promotion Plan of Almadenes Gorge has funding of 4.1 million euros in participating, equally, the Government of Spain, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Tourist Consortium Gorge which Almadenes local councils are part of Calasparra and Cieza.
This plan intends to promote environmental tourism in the area around the natural area Almadenes Canyon, through which the River Segura, forming one of the most unusual and beautiful places in the region.
The outdoor activities will be complemented with the development of cultural and sporting resources located in the immediate environment of that canyon in the municipalities of Cieza and Calasparra.
