The Sustainable Mobility Plan Cieza commitment to saving energy and cycling (21/03/2011)

The director general of Transport and Ports, Carmen Sandoval, and the Mayor of Cieza, Francisco Tamayo, today introduced the Sustainable Mobility Plan in the municipality, which includes a series of proposals that will contribute to saving energy and reducing pollution through the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian mobility.

"The objective," said Carmen Sandoval, is to improve environmental sustainability and reduce air pollution through a series of coordinated measures which also contribute to energy savings, according to estimates, will reach 6 percent of total CO2 emissions ".

Thus, the objective of the strategic plan is to move from 6.7 percent in the use of public transport to 15 percent by 2015 for external accessibility and, for domestic travel, reduce the share of private vehicles from 40 to 25 percent.

Also increase pedestrian and bicycle mobility of 58.5 to 65 percent.

Among the main measures included in the document highlights enhance the bicycle rental system in the town of Cieza, and thus relieve the main streets of town.

Also proposed is the construction of new stretches of bike lanes and commissioning pathways for pedestrians and cyclists priority.

Another initiative that is collected is the articulation of a road system that gives priority to pedestrians in new areas of park and ride.

It also provides for the promotion of public transport, with new lines and services to ensure accessibility to residential areas and meet the mobility needs of citizens, thereby helping to limit the use of private vehicles.

In this regard, the Plan also proposes to develop a car sharing program and a municipal website from which to manage all information relating to mobility.

It also raises the creation of a Technical Management Office and one citizen service to promote clean transportation and sustainable.

The Sustainable Mobility supported by 75 percent by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning, through the Directorate General for Transport and Ports, to 78,862 euros, while the Municipality of Cieza contributes 25 per cent.
