The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, accompanied by the Mayor of Cieza, Antonio Tamayo, today visited the rehabilitation and extension works carried out at the Capitol Theatre in this town.
The work, expected to be completed later this year, involving an investment of 11 million euros from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
With this new infrastructure, said Cruz, "is filled one of the most important cultural processes that have been made in Cieza.
After rehabilitation, the theater will feature a main hall for 700 people, equipped with the best acoustics for theater and music, and a second room for 150 viewers.
This last room is located on the main entrance with separate entrance, offering the ability to schedule several shows at once.
The project, the architect Horacio Fernández del Castillo, preserves the old facade of the building, providing access to the smallest room, but will also have a much wider second input of new construction, street Pablo Iglesias.
Among the new techniques, the theater will have a new stage house and provision has also been used as a cinema.
For this purpose, took into account the distribution of space and specific equipment for the screenings.
The new cultural infrastructure will also have multipurpose rooms for exhibitions and rehearsals.
Thus, the interior has been arranged to make a separate use of the auditorium and other function rooms.
Since opening in 1955 until its closure in the early 90's, the theater was the main reference Cieza cultural city and the region.
The council decided to purchase the property in 1994 for final reopening to the public as municipal cultural space.
