The House of Representatives on Tuesday discussed a proposition of law submitted by the PP deputy Murcia, Teodoro Garcia, which aims to "promote international recognition of the peach of Cieza and its region, while requesting the Government help and support center to this product Murcia in its international expansion. "
This has been explained Teodoro Garcia himself, who recalls that "from the PP have always been on the side of farmers, regardless of what was the political color of the government, in all matters that concern them, because we are aware of the importance of a sector like agriculture in our region. "
"And not only in quantitative terms related to the weight of the regional economy," he continued, "but also by the number of families living a modern and sustainable industry that has transformed our land."
Deputy 'popular' has pointed out that by this proposition of law "is to urge the Government to support the peach Cieza and the region through the implementation of an appellation of origin and through its support in international markets to facilitate their introduction and their position internationally. "
And, as pointed Teodoro Garcia, "the peach Cieza has characteristics that make it unique compared to any other similar product, derived from the influence that the river Segura has in this land as a climate of cold winters and warm in spring, which facilitates the production of high quality fruit organoleptic ".
The municipality of Cieza is currently the largest peach producer in Europe and employs around 10,000 people directly or indirectly in the whole region.
Meanwhile, Peach is the main irrigated crop in the Region of Murcia, surpassing the 250,000 tons of product with an area occupied by the fruit of more than 14,000 hectares in the region.
As a fact that gives a good account of the importance which is the region of Cieza in this regard it is noteworthy that more than half of the total cultivated area and more than 70 percent of the total harvest of peaches are in this region.
