The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has approved the construction project environmental recovery of the Segura as it passes through the town of Cieza Murcia River.
The project, which runs the state society Waters of the Mediterranean Basin (Acuamed) has a projected cost of 3.8 million euros.
This investment will be financed by European funds and their implementation has been entrusted to the public company Tragsa.
This is a major environmental project whose main objective is to restore the ecological potential of the banks of the River Segura in the next leg to the town of Murcia (Spain), which allows the enjoyment of the population.
In the project include, among others, the creation of wooden walkways, two observatories and viewpoints, parks and river beaches, as well as expanding the current Riverwalk.
Cleaning works, recovery of areas, planting native species and improved accessibility will run.
The project to be developed in Cieza includes, inter alia, actions such as the construction of various routes and footpaths sand hardened to enhance and publicize the population the set of elements of natural interest of this stretch of the River Segura .
Groves and naturalized spaces will be created to promote the development of patches of native riparian vegetation, while they removed invasive species Canaveral, restoring natural river beaches several existing prior to the invasion of reeds, to recover the traditional enjoyment of their waters.
Thus, the functionality of the works is not only the environmental recovery of the area but also the promotion of sustainable uses, whether recreational, such as walking, fishing or other sports, good teaching in environmental education, and points species observation and science.
The project approved by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment will extend over a wide area that is located upstream of the La Presa so called Argaz bridge, about 4.8 km from the river, on the side closest to Murcia town.
